NPFL Round-up: Former Champions Struggle Against Newcomers

Former champions of the Nigeria Premier Football League, NPFL, struggled against the newcomers in match day two of the 2025/2026 season, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

Starting off in Jos, Plateau United were condemned to a 1-2 home loss to Katsina United to record back-to-back losses for the Jos-based side.

Shola Adegun's Plateau United team faltered in his first home game in front of Jos faithful to a spirited Azeez Mohammed’s men, who suffered a shock 0-1 defeat to promoted side Warri Wolves last weekend.

Four-time champions Kano Pillars, who were without the services of Ahmed Musa shared the spoils 1-1 with visiting Wikki Tourists at the Sani Abacha Stadium in Kano.

Wikki Tourists, who were led by former Kano Pillars head coach, Abdu Maikaba, inflicted defeat on Evans Ogenyi-led tutored side, who failed to secure the maximum three points in his second game of the season.

Warri Wolves, who won on the road last weekend, defeated eight-time champions Rangers International by 2-0 in Ozoro, while Ladan Bosso's return to Yenagoa with newcomers, Barau FC, ended in a 2-0 defeat to Monday Odigie's rejuvenated Bayelsa United.

The trio of Rivers United, Enyimba FC and Nasarawa United secured an identical 1-0 home wins over Kwara United, Niger Tornadoes and Abia Warriors, respectively, while the clash between Ikorodu City FC and El-Kanemi Warriors ended goalless.
