The 2025/2026 Nigeria Premier Football League, NPFL, returned with a lot of surprising results as newly promoted teams picked valuable points, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

Warri Wolves shocked Katsina United by securing a one-nil away win while Kun Khalifat FC began their campaign in Nigeria's top-flight with a goalless affair against Rangers International in Enugu.

Another promoted side, Barau FC held former champions, Enyimba FC to a barren draw at the Sani Abacha Stadium in Kano while Wikki Tourists beat Plateau United.

In Ibadan, visiting Bayelsa United under Monday Odigie shocked the the home side with a crucial one-nil win against Shooting Stars Sports Club.

Abia Warriors got the better of Kano Pillars by a lone goal while El-kanemi Warriors defeated Bendel Insurance 2-0 in Maiduguri.

Kwara United were held at home in a goalless affair by visiting Ikorodu City FC.
