NPFL Sanctions Rangers, Orders Two Home Games Behind Closed Doors

The Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) has handed Enugu Rangers a series of sanctions following security lapses and misconduct during their home match against Barau FC on Sunday, April 5, 2026, at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

The league confirmed that Rangers failed to provide adequate and effective security, allowing unauthorized persons to access restricted areas. 

In addition, club officials displayed behavior deemed capable of bringing the game into disrepute.

Rangers supporters were also cited for gross misconduct, including harassment of match officials, which the NPFL described as undermining the integrity of the league.

As a result, the NPFL imposed fines totaling N4 million:

N1 million for inadequate security

N1 million for pitch encroachment

N1 million for unsporting behavior by officials

N1 million for failure to control supporters

Furthermore, Rangers have been ordered to play their remaining two home fixtures behind closed doors. 

The club has 48 hours from the issuance of the sanctions to file an appeal.
