NPFL Slaps ₦1m Fine On Clubs For Skipping Post-Match Press Conferences

The Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) has declared that any club whose head coach fails to attend the mandatory post-match press conference in the 2025/26 season will be fined ₦1 million, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

Chief Operating Officer Davison Owumi made this announcement in Lafia during the NPFL preseason seminar for media officers, supporters’ club chairmen, and chief security officers.

Owumi emphasised that only head coaches—not their assistants—are permitted to handle post-match media duties, citing global best practices.

“Have you ever seen Pep Guardiola send his assistant to stand in for him after a game? From now on, post-match press conferences are strictly for the head coach,” Owumi stated.

NPFL Director of Communications Harry Iwuala also challenged media officers to be creative in promoting their clubs, noting that innovative publicity can significantly improve the league’s visibility.

Additionally, Iwuala revealed that this season will see the introduction of pre-match interviews for both home and away teams to provide fans with more insight into players and clubs.
