By Niyi Busari
The Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) has announced that its Annual General Meeting (AGM) will take place on Friday, August 7, 2026, in Ibadan, Oyo State, as preparations intensify for the start of the 2026/27 season, BSNSports.com.ng reports.
The meeting will bring together club chairmen, owners, NPFL board members, officials of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), key stakeholders, and other football administrators to review the previous campaign and finalize plans for the upcoming season.
Following the AGM, the NPFL will conduct the official draws and unveil the fixtures for the 2026/27 campaign, providing clubs and supporters with the complete schedule for the new season.
The AGM is expected to address key issues relating to league administration, club licensing, officiating standards, player welfare, commercial growth, broadcasting, and other strategic initiatives aimed at improving the quality and competitiveness of the domestic league.
In a major boost for Nigerian club football, the National Sports Commission (NSC) has announced a record ₦1 billion prize for the winners of the 2026/27 NPFL title. The commission also disclosed that a minimum monthly wage of ₦2 million has been approved for NPFL players, a move designed to improve players' welfare, enhance professionalism, and raise the league's overall standard.
The announcement represents one of the most significant financial commitments to the NPFL in recent years and is expected to increase competition among clubs while encouraging greater investment in Nigerian football.
The 2026/27 season is widely anticipated to build on recent efforts to strengthen the NPFL's profile, improve its commercial appeal, and enhance its competitiveness both domestically and on the continental stage.
