NPFL Week 8 Round-Up: Remo Stars Thrash Gombe United, As Insurance, Rangers, 3SC Secure Away Point

The Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) Matchday 8 fixtures continued on Sunday with interesting match-ups and big goal margins recorded in some match centers with Remo Stars, and Plateau United securing big wins, BSNSports.com.ng reports. 

With Lobi Stars, Katsina United and Kano Pillars claimed late victories, while Bendel Insurance, Rangers International, and Shooting Stars also secured vital points on the road.

In Ikenne, Remo Stars returned to winning ways with a brilliant team performance after they thrashed Gombe United 4-0, at the Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne.

In-form forward, Sikiru Alimi scored inside the 25 minutes to give the Sky Blue Stars a 1-0 lead. Before Franck Mawuena doubled the lead 2-0 with a close finish in the 32nd minute. 

Okon Aniekeme scored the third goal in the 58th minute, before Alimi completed his brace with a close finish outside the edge of the box to make it 4-0, in the 78th minute. 

In Jos, Plateau United secured a massive 3-1 home win over Abia Warriors, at the New Jos Stadium. 

Through goals from Chris Nwaeze, Barnabas Daniels, and an own goal from Abia Warriors right-back Jerry Ogu, who scored into his net as the Mbwas Mangut side went 3-0 up just within 15 minutes.

Before Meme Okike scored his second league goal of the season, when he pulled a goal back for the visitors, in the 32nd minute as Erasmus Onuh's side suffered their fourth defeat of the season. 

In Akure, Rangers International secured a vital point on the road after they held Sunshine Stars to a 2-2 draw at the Ondo Sports Complex Stadium. 

Godwin Obaje gave the Flying Antelopes an early lead inside four minutes with a brilliant strike. Before Ibrahim Yusuf leveled it 1-1 for the Akure Gunners in the 13th minute. 

Moses Omodumueke restored Sunshine Stars' lead for the first time in the game after he capitalized on the Rangers' poor defense to make it 2-1, in the 80th minute. 

Before Osimaga Duke scored to draw the game levelled at 2-2 in the 93rd minute.

In Lafia, table-toppers Lobi Stars secured a narrow 1-0 victory over Sporting Lagos, at the Lafia City Stadium. 

Through a 29th minute strike by Sunday Chinedu helped the Pride of Benue earn a massive three points and extend their lead at the top of the log. 

While Kano Pillars returned to winning ways with a 1-0 home win over champions Enyimba FC, at the Sani Abacha Stadium, Kano. 

Abah Adams scored the match-winning goal for the Abdul Maikaba-led side in the 71st minute when he slotted it home from a close range inside the edge of the box as Enyimba FC suffered yet another defeat on the road. 

In Ilorin, 10-man Shooting Stars earned a vital point after they held Kwara United to a 1-1 draw.

The Gbenga Ogunbote side took the lead through Malomo Taofeeq's 44th strike. Before Mohammed Alao leveled it 1-1 in the 88th minute both sides shared the point. 

In Katsina, it was a massive victory at the end for Tony Bolus, after Katsina United secured a narrow 1-0 win over Rivers United, at the Muhammad Dikko Stadium. 

A 46th-minute strike by Mansoor Saleh helped the Katsina-based club bounce back to winning ways with a massive three points.

In Kaduna, Bendel Insurance secures their second away point on a bounce, after they held Niger Tornadoes to a goalless draw, at the Ahmadu Bello Stadium.

It would sound like a massive boost for Benin Arsenal as they continue on their quest to be one of the contenders for the league title this season. It would feel like vital point for Monday Odigie and his team.
