NPFL25: Finidi George Hails 10-Man Rivers United Over Draw Against Insurance
By Precious Oham
Technical Manager of Rivers United, Finidi George has hailed his players for securing a crucial point on the road against Bendel Insurance in the match day one of the 2024/2025 NPFL season, BSNSports.com.ng reports.
Goalkeeper, Bamidele Adeniyi was sent off for the first time in Rivers United colours but the Pride of Rivers stood firm to secure a point at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin City.
The reliable goalkeeper saw red early in the second half following a clash with an Insurance forward just outside the box.
Addressing the media, George noted that playing under such circumstances is not easy especially in the NPFL.
While expressing joy to have secured the point, George said they will shit focus to the next game at home.
"It's never easy. My time with Enyimba also, it is always a difficult place to even pick a point. For us playing with one man less and we were able to defend till the end. I must commend my boys. This is just the beginning and now we just have to think how we can go back home and consolidate.
"We will be playing at home and we will try to give our best to win that game. Every game is difficult in the NPFL. We are happy with this one point. You can't take anything away from them. They gave their best but at the end of the day, getting that one point is crucial for us."
Rivers United will host Heartland FC on Sunday, September 15, in their first home game of the season.
