NSC, NFF Meet Over 2026 World Cup Ticket

The National Sports Commission (NSC) and the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) on Tuesday held a strategic meeting to fashion out ways the Super Eagles, despite being in precarious situation will qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

To get the team back on track in the World Cup qualifier, Super Eagles, who is still searching for the win, must beat the table toppers, Rwanda at their own backyard in the matchday 5 encounter.

On their part, the NFF in January, 2025 appointed a foreign tactician, Eric Chelle to lead the team in their next six world cup games. Super Eagles are languishing in fifth position with three points from four games while table toppers, Rwanda have seven points. South Africa and Benin Republic have same points (7) with Rwanda and are second and third respectively with Lesotho in fourth position having five points.

The Chairman, National Sports Commission, Shehu Dikko on his official Facebook page stated that all hands are on deck in making sure that the Super Eagles despite being in tight corner pick the group's solitary ticket.

He wrote, "Today, I received briefings/updates from my brother, the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) @thenff President Alhaji Ibrahim Gusau @IbrahimMusaGus1. 

The engagements held at the NSC @NatSportsComm offices, focused on the preparations for the crucial World Cup qualifiers billed for March 2025 and need to ensure that the Super Eagles @NGSuperEagles get the World Cup qualification effort perfectly back on track with the ultimate goal of securing the group’s solitary ticket; immediate resolutions of all mitigating issues around the team; special motivation framework to bolster the team performances; propose PSGWC2026; international sports diplomacy as well as developmental matters regarding the unveiling of the upcoming FIFA Forward Projects in Nigeria.
