The National Sports Commission (NSC) on Tuesday formally inaugurated the Nigeria Netball Federation, reaffirming its commitment to creating more opportunities for women in sports development across the country, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

Speaking during the inauguration held on May 5, NSC Chairman, Shehu Dikko, highlighted the consistent achievements of Nigerian women on the international stage, stressing that netball can serve as an important platform for inclusion, grassroots development, and future global success.

Dikko noted that the Commission remains committed to supporting sports capable of empowering women and expanding participation at the grassroots level.

The Director-General of the NSC, Bukola Olopade, also commended the composition of the newly inaugurated board, stating that the presence of experienced and credible professionals aligns with the Commission’s objective of building effective and result-oriented federations.

Olopade added that every member of the board is expected to contribute actively towards the growth and development of the sport in Nigeria.

The Commission further stated that the federation, which is largely driven by experienced female professionals, will focus on repositioning netball within schools while also exploring opportunities to engage talented players from the Nigerian diaspora.

The inauguration is seen as another step in the NSC’s broader strategy to strengthen women’s sports and promote wider participation across different sporting disciplines in the country.
