NSC Reaffirms Support for Favour Ofili After Allegiance Switch Rejection

The National Sports Commission (NSC) has reaffirmed its support for Nigerian sprint star Favour Ofili following the decision by World Athletics to reject her request to switch national allegiance, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

Speaking in response to media inquiries, the Director General of the NSC, Bukola Olopade, stressed that the Commission remains committed to the athlete and is hopeful she will continue to represent Nigeria.

Olopade described Ofili as an integral part of the nation’s sporting future, expressing both institutional and personal support. He urged the sprinter to reconsider any thoughts of distancing herself from the national team, assuring her that Nigeria remains ready to provide the platform and backing necessary for her continued success.

He also encouraged Ofili not to be discouraged by recent developments, emphasizing that the country values her contributions and remains invested in her preparation for upcoming international competitions, including the Olympic Games in two years.

The NSC acknowledged the challenges athletes often face in making career decisions, particularly in navigating opportunities and national affiliations. It reiterated its commitment to creating an enabling environment where elite talents can thrive.

Furthermore, the Commission highlighted the importance of collaboration with sports federations and relevant stakeholders to strengthen athlete welfare, improve access to resources, and ensure Nigerian representatives are well-positioned to compete successfully on the global stage.
