NUGA 2022: UNILAG Angels In Late Charge For Gold As UNILORIN Win Male Football Gold

As the 10-day NUGA2022 Games come to an end today, host university, UNILAG, still look to snatch victory from their arch rival, University of Port Harcourt (UNIPORT), with a late charge for gold medals across various categories yesterday.



The UNILAG Angels football team came from behind to beat UNICAL in yesterday’s women’s football finals, earning gold for their school, while UNIZIK got the bronze.


At the tennis women doubles, UNIPORT won gold, RSU silver, while UNILORIN and FUNAAB settled for joint bronze.


For the men’s doubles, NILE won gold, UNIPORT silver, while ABU and JOSTUM got joint bronze. The mixed doubles saw UNIPORT, again winning gold, silver went to NILE, while UNIPORT and IBBUL shared a joint bronze.



The singles men category saw UNIPORT snatching another gold and silver medal, while NILE won bronze. The women singles went to NILE, silver to BIU, while UNIPORT and UNILAG shared joint bronze.


Table tennis mixed doubles saw UNILAG smiling home with the gold, NILE settled for silver, while EKSU and UNICAL shared joint bronze.



For the women doubles, UNICAL fought off the hosts for the gold medal while UNIBEN and OAU settled for joint bronze. It was the same tale for the women’s singles as UNICAL took gold again, UNILAG silver with EKSU and NDU sharing joint bronze. The men’s doubles gold went to OOU, silver to UNILAG with FUTA and MOUAU sharing joint bronze. EKSU took home the gold for the men’s singles, the host university settled for silver as UNIAGRIC and FUTA shared joint bronze.


Unilag males basketball team fought back to win a gold, leaving silver for NILE and bronze for ABU Zaria. Their female counterparts won silver, as OAU took home the gold and BIU, the bronze medal.


OAU female handball team snatched the gold medal from NDU while Usman Dan Fodio University men emerged bronze winners in this category. Unilag male’s volleyball team won a bronze medal, while their female team bagged a silver medal with UNIJOS winning gold and underdogs, Bayero, went home with a bronze medal.


UNILAG’S female hockey team cheered the hearts of their fans as they fought off tough competition from UNIJOS to win silver yesterday afternoon, improving their standing on the medal table as UNIBEN won gold. The men’s hockey finals will hold this morning at the University’s sport Centre before the closing ceremony.


UNILORIN shocked the male football team from OAU, winning 5-4 on penalties. The match was goalless till the penalty shootout, which UNILORIN won.
