NUGA Inaugurates New EXCO As President Ogbu Promises Improved Games, Participation

The president of the Nigerian University Games Association (NUGA), Emeka Ogbu has promised that his newly inaugurated Executive will explore every opportunity and collaborate with relevant stakeholders to take Nigerian University games and NUGA to a higher height.
The NUGA President gave the assurance during the inauguration ceremony at the Committee of Vice Chancellors of Nigerian Universities General Assembly which held on Thursday, June 30, 2022 in Abuja.
He said, "we will collaborate with all relevant stakeholders including the Federal government to promote sports in our universities, particularly in the area of sponsorship, scholarship and advocacy geared towards encouraging participation and involvement of more universities and students in sports.
"We will build on the achievements of the past Executive and do more in creating awareness to let students know that sports create job opportunities."
He envisioned NUGA making more impact in the global scene ,while also noting that NUGA could serve as a breeding ground for Nigeria Olympic and world athletics teams with proper investment of resources in NUGA.
" we want to take our rightful position in the global scene as giants of Africa. And we want the Federal government to give NUGA legal backing with regards to finance to enable us execute some capital intensive projects needed to promote sporting activities in our schools. " He emphasized.
Emeka Ogbu of Enugu State University of Science and technology (ESUT) was elected president, Nigeria University Games Association having been returned unopposed after his only opponent Nnadozie Cliford of Michael Okpara University of Agriculture , Umudike, Abia State, voluntarily stepped down from the race few hours before the election proper which held on Friday 25th of March, 2022.
He served as 1st vice President in the immediate past Executive under the outgone President, Prof. Stephen S. Hamafyelto.
Also elected with Ogbu are Dr. Bawa Mohammed of Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University, Bauchi as First vice president and Dr Michael Ajibuwa of Federal University of Technology Akure (Futa) among others during the successful 26th edition of the Nigeria University Games Association competition which held at the University of Lagos(UNILAG).
