NWFL 24: Ogbala Rues Heartland Queens' Loss To Adamawa Queens

Heartland Queens Technical Adviser, Obi Ogbala has rued his side's sore defeat in the hands of hosts, Adamawa Queens, BSNSports.com.ng reports. 

The Owerri side were pegged 1-2 by the Yola-based topflights in Wednesday's NWFL Premiership matchday 7 clash at the Pantami Stadium in Gombe.

The Owerri landladies scored the match opener off the foot of enterprising attacker, Onyinyechi Kalu in the 36th minute while the hosts scored two goals in the second half through the duo, captain Oluwaseun Anani and former Imo Strikers Queens' attacker, Mary Moses.

Ogbala however said ending the season's first term as leaders is a huge consolation for the sore loss at Adamawa Queens.

"Actually, we really prepared, and worked hard to go to Adamawa Queens in Gombe to pick the three points and it almost worked out. As we scored the goal we were able to contain them to an extent before the unsavoury football factor sets in.

"Good a thing, Heartland Queens are still on top of Group A table. I know it's a multi-horse race as the teams behind me are also preparing harder as well. It's a positive one for me going into the first term break sitting on top of the group's table.

"I am using Adamawa Queens match as a learning curve to come back and prepare well as the second stanza is going to be really tough.

"So to make us to achieve our dreams of qualifying for the Super Six we need to work on the lapses we saw during the match and good a thing we are going to start with them in the second term.

"Knowing fully well that I now know them, I played them without knowing them, we have not met again after the NWFL Championship promotion playoffs in 2021.

"That's not an excuse, we lost the game, the only thing is to come back stronger which will make the difference and we are making that statement with Adamawa Queens in the second stanza."

He equally noted that his side will use the mid term transfer window to bring in few players to strengthen the team for the business end of the season.

"Like I said we are heading into the second stanza, the final race where we have to brace the tape. We have seen actions in seven matches, we have looked at the whole areas, all the departments, there's need to fortify the team.

"There's a need to bring one or two players to fortify the team so that we will be stronger to push it to the end.

"Virtually, we are looking at almost all the departments except the goalkeeping area, we are looking at the midfield, attack and defence. We need to make some new additions so that we can make a statement and really work hard to see us achieve our dreams."

Despite the 1-2 falter at Adamawa Queens in Gombe the Owerri side maintained her leadership position on Group A log on 11 points same as challengers, Nasarawa Amazons, newcomers, Dannaz Ladies and Confluence Queens on superior goals going into the mid term break.
