Precious Oham
Rivers Angels Head Coach Tosan Blankson, who led Delta Queens to the league title in the 2022/2023 season, has downplayed the significance of the match, BSNSports.com.ng reports.
Rivers Angels of Port Harcourt arrived in Asaba on Tuesday, ahead of their highly anticipated South South derby clash against Delta Queens.
Boosted by their recent victory over FC Robo, the Jewels of Rivers are exuding confidence and are poised to shine in Asaba.
He said: "It's not a big clash because the players in the team now are different from the players that I coached. The majority of them have left Delta Queens.
"We're taking it one match at a time. It's nothing but victory for my team on Wednesday."
Blankson acknowledged Delta Queens' potential but believes his team has the edge.
"I'm not underestimating Delta Queens, but their players are no match for mine."
Former Delta Queens captain and current Rivers Angels midfielder Taiwo Afolabi also expressed optimism about her team's chances.
Although Delta Queens holds a special place in her heart, Afolabi emphasized that she's in Asaba on a mission.
"I'm back home to play against my former team, but this is business," Afolabi stated.
"I am ready to face my former team and secure the maximum 3 points."
The two teams have a closely contested head-to-head record, with Rivers Angels winning three times, Delta Queens winning once, and five matches ending in draws in their last nine meetings.
