Napoli President De Laurentiis Indicted in False Accounting Probe Tied to Osimhen Deal

Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis has been ordered to stand trial on allegations of false accounting related to the transfer of Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen from Lille. The Rome Prosecutor’s Office alleges that Napoli used artificial capital gains by inflating the valuation of players involved in the deal.

The indictment also includes Napoli CEO Andrea Chiavelli and the club itself. A preliminary hearing judge in Rome has set the first court date for December 2, 2026.

The investigation covers financial operations between 2019 and 2021, focusing particularly on how Napoli recorded the transfers of Osimhen and Greek defender Kostas Manolas. Prosecutors believe the club boosted its balance sheet by attaching exaggerated values to several youth players included in the Osimhen deal, generating what they describe as unjustified capital gains.

Despite the ongoing criminal proceedings, Napoli faces no immediate threat on the sporting front. Italy’s Federal Prosecutor previously closed the related FIGC inquiry, stating that no new evidence had emerged to warrant reopening disciplinary action.

Further details from the investigation point to wiretaps gathered by the Guardia di Finanza, in which club officials allegedly warned one another to be discreet during the negotiations. In one intercepted communication, an official reportedly said, “You must not write anything… leave no trace in emails.”
