By Niyi Busari
Italian Serie A side Napoli are preparing a move to sign Nigerian forward Ademola Lookman in the January transfer window as a potential replacement for Victor Osimhen, who is currently playing for Galatasaray in Turkey, BSNSports.com.ng reports.
Osimhen enjoyed a stellar final season at Napoli, finishing as the league’s top scorer and playing a crucial role in delivering the club’s first Serie A title in over three decades. His success in Naples earned him global recognition and a high-profile transfer to Galatasaray.
Speaking to reporters, Napoli head coach Antonio Conte confirmed the club’s interest in Lookman and addressed Osimhen’s departure. “Yes, we made Victor here in Napoli,” Conte said. “Osimhen is enjoying the fame he earned from his time at this club. Although he became somewhat ungrateful, Napoli will always be proud to have developed a world-class player like him. Footballers who play in Napoli often gain global recognition.”
Conte added that the club’s January transfer strategy is already in motion and that Atalanta's Lookman is a top target.
“We are planning to buy Lookman once the January transfer window opens. Our plans are already intact,” he continued. “Lukaku needs support up front, and we believe Lookman is the perfect player to complement our attack.”
Lookman, who currently plays for Atalanta, has impressed in Serie A since joining from RB Leipzig, showcasing pace, creativity, and an eye for goal—qualities Napoli believe can fill the void left by Osimhen.
