Nasarawa United: Mangut Mbwas Dismisses League Title Favourites Tag

Precious Oham

Mangut Mbwas of Nasarawa United has dismissed the tag as league title favourites after his team led the log on the table, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

A dominant performance by Nasarawa United on Sunday afternoon saw them convincingly defeat Katsina United 2-0 at the Lafia City Stadium on match-day six of the ongoing 2025/26 Nigeria Premier Football League Season.

Speaking after the victory, defeated, Mbwas noted that it is still early days in the league and not yet time for celebration.

Sunday's result, their third consecutive home win of the season, catapulted the Solid Miners to the summit of the NPFL table, amassing 13 points from six matches, having won four games, drawn one, and lost one, with a goal difference of four.

He said: "It's a thing of joy to win today. Our response was great because we have been working so hard. We actually planned for this, and as you said, we are achieving our goals gradually. "We have remained focused. It's not time for celebration yet because the league is a marathon, and still in its infancy.

"Katsina United are a team that could deny you a win because they won't allow you to play. The first-half goal gave us an edge to score the second one, even though we squandered a flurry of chances.

"We should have scored more than two goals today, but it seems my players are over-anxious in front of the goal. We are working towards correcting all of those.

"In our next game, it won't be easy, but my team is growing in confidence, game in, game out, and I believe we could win anywhere."
