Nasarawa United Slip As Plateau United And Kano Pillars Claim Crucial Wins

By Niyi Busari

Nasarawa United missed a chance to draw level on points with Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) leaders Rivers United after being held to a 1–1 draw by former champions Enyimba at the Lafia City Stadium. The result ensured the title race at the top remains tightly contested.

Abia Warriors also dropped points at home, settling for a 1–1 draw against Wikki Tourists in Umuahia, while Plateau United recorded an important 2–1 victory over Enugu Rangers. In the North West derby, Kano Pillars edged Katsina United 1–0 to complete Matchday 23’s slate of four fixtures, which produced two wins and two draws.

In Kano, a 72nd-minute strike from Musa proved decisive as Pillars secured maximum points against their regional rivals. At the Umuahia Township Stadium, E. Obioma fired Abia Warriors into the lead in the 51st minute, but Wikki Tourists responded swiftly through Taheer, who equalised five minutes later.

Nasarawa United appeared on course for all three points when Istifanus put the Solid Miners ahead in the 69th minute. However, Enyimba’s Kalu Nweke converted a 73rd-minute penalty to deny the hosts victory and ensure a share of the spoils.

Despite not featuring this matchday, Rivers United remain top of the NPFL standings with 41 points. Nasarawa United sit second on 39 points, closely followed by Abia Warriors in third with 38. Enugu Rangers occupy fourth position with 36 points.

Former champions Enyimba are 12th on 28 points, while Plateau United and Wikki Tourists are level on 27 points each.
