Nigeria’s Ezekiel Nathaniel kicked off his 2026 outdoor season in style, winning the men’s 400m hurdles in a dramatic photo-finish battle against American Trevor Bassitt on Sunday, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

Both athletes crossed the line in an identical time of 47.37 seconds, but officials awarded the gold to Nathaniel after reviewing the photo finish. 

The razor-thin margin underscored the high level of competition at the event.

The victory marks an encouraging early-season statement for the Nigerian hurdler, who has steadily risen as one of Africa’s most promising talents in the event.
