National Sports Festival: Team Rivers To Get 2Million, Others As Medal Bonuses

Rivers State Government has announced unprecedented cash rewards for its athletes competing at the 22nd National Sports Festival (NSF), the Gateway Games 2025, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

This was contained in a statement by Juliana Masi, Head Press Office of the Secretary to the State Government, Rivers State Government.

During a high-energy pre-departure rally at the Alfred Diette-Spiff Sports Complex and the University of Port Harcourt training camp, the Rivers State Administrator, His Excellency Vice Admiral (Rtd.) Ibok-Ete Ekwe Ibas, represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Ibibia Lucky Worika, unveiled a game-changing incentive package:

According to the state government, ₦2,000,000 for every GOLD medal, ₦1,000,000 for every SILVER medal and ₦500,000 for every BRONZE medal.

Rivers State believes in you. His Excellency is investing in your victory because you represent the pride, strength, and future of our state," declared Prof. Worika. 

"This is the most generous reward scheme in Nigeria—now go out there, dominate the competition, and bring glory to Rivers State!" The Administrator charged the athletes to seize the moment, emphasizing that the state stands firmly behind them. 

"You’ve trained hard; now it’s time to shine. Be champions on the field and ambassadors of excellence."

Dr. Mrs. Inyingi S. I. Brown, Acting Head of Service, reinforced the message, urging the team to make history.

"No other state is offering what Rivers State is giving you. This is your time—go out and claim your victory!" she proclaimed.
