In May 2025, Nigeria will compete against its West African rival Ghana, as well as Jamaica and Trinidad and Tobago, in London for the Unity Trophy. This event, titled "The Best in the West – the Afro Classico Contest," will feature two semi-finals highlighting thrilling local matchups, BSNSports.com.ng has sourced.

The first semi-final will take place on Tuesday, May 27, and will showcase the inaugural TriniJam clash on UK soil, where Trinidad and Tobago’s Soca Warriors will face off against Jamaica’s Reggae Boyz to determine the best team in the West Indies.

The following day, on May 28, Nigeria’s Super Eagles will take on Ghana’s Black Stars, vying for bragging rights in West Africa.

The four teams will compete again on Saturday, May 31, in a doubleheader that will determine the bronze medal winner, followed by the final match to decide who will lift the Unity Cup 2025.

Two-time Unity Cup winners in Nigeria are expected to start as favourites due to their FIFA ranking and recent performances. However, past matchups indicate that form can falter against their West African rivals, Ghana, who previously defeated the Super Eagles 4-1 in London.

Jamaica will also enter the tournament eager for redemption, having lost a close match by just one goal in the past.

Rotimi Pedro, the event's organizer from AfroSport, stated, "I am proud to announce that the Unity Cup is back. Reviving this important community event has been a long journey, and we are excited that fans of African and Caribbean football will witness international football of the highest calibre at the Unity Cup 2025."

Andy Howes, Co-Director of AfroSport, added, "The Unity Cup is a tournament that truly embodies the concept of 'an event that goes beyond sport.' With an array of elite talents and the profile of the teams involved, this event holds significance not only for its cultural impact but also for reflecting the growing commercial importance of African and Caribbean football, as well as the increasing demographic of Black football fans within English football."
