Nigeria, Niger Republic To Represent Africa At 2025 World Championship In Azerbaijan

African Chovken champions Nigeria and Niger Republic have secured qualification for next year’s Chovken World Championship in Baku, Azerbaijan, following impressive performances at the recently concluded African Chovken Championship held at the Guards Polo Club in Abuja, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

Both teams emerged as the continent’s representatives after finishing as the top two sides in the prestigious four-day event, which doubled as the African qualifiers for the global championship. Ghana and Egypt, who placed third and fourth respectively, will have to wait for another cycle to attempt qualification.

President of the International Chovken Federation (ICF), Bahruz Nabiyev, confirmed the qualification and expressed confidence that Nigeria and Niger Republic would represent Africa with distinction on the world stage. He praised the high level of discipline, commitment, and sportsmanship displayed by all participating teams and noted the sport’s growing influence across Africa.

“We in the ICF are very happy at the level of sportsmanship and the rising popularity of Chovken in Nigeria and other African countries,” Nabiyev said. “We look forward to welcoming more nations into the global Chovken family soon.”

Nabiyev also revealed that the African qualifiers will join representatives from Europe and Asia at the world event, while the remaining slots will be decided at the North/South American championship scheduled for December in Argentina.

President of the African Region Chovken Federation, Nura Kangiwa, commended all participating teams for their dedication and discipline. He thanked the ICF for awarding Nigeria hosting rights for the inaugural African Championship and reiterated that the sport is now firmly taking root across the continent. Kangiwa, who led Nigeria to its first-ever appearance at the Chovken World Championship in Baku last year, applauded the opportunity for African nations to showcase their talent on a global platform.

Meanwhile, President of the Nigerian Chovken Federation (NCF), Abdulkarim Jubrin, congratulated the national team for securing a World Championship berth. He announced plans for a nationwide series of tournaments aimed at strengthening the team’s preparation and expanding the sport’s popularity in Nigeria.

Jubrin noted that the national tour would also help discover new talent and build on the enthusiasm generated by the inaugural African Championship in Abuja, which drew large crowds and significant interest from fans.

Although details of the nationwide tournament series are still being finalized, sources indicate the event is expected to begin in northern Nigeria before moving to other regions.

The African Chovken Championship, organised by the ICF and hosted by the NCF, featured teams from Ghana, Egypt, and Niger Republic. The competition delivered four days of high-intensity action and attracted Chovken enthusiasts from across the continent to the serene Guards Polo Club in Asokoro, Abuja.
