Nigeria Among Founding Members Of African Club League Union

Nigeria has been confirmed as one of the founding members of the newly established Union of African Club Leagues, inaugurated on Saturday at the headquarters of the Confederation of African Football in Cairo, Egypt, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

The initiative, which aims to strengthen club football structures across the continent, brings together eight countries as pioneer members.

 Nigeria joins Egypt, Algeria, South Africa, Botswana, Uganda, Mozambique, and Zambia in forming the new body.

At the launch event, Ahmed Diab of Egypt was elected as the inaugural head of the Union, signaling a coordinated effort to improve governance, commercial growth, and competitiveness among African club competitions.

The formation of the Union of African Club Leagues is seen as a strategic move to align domestic leagues more closely with continental objectives, particularly in areas such as scheduling, player welfare, broadcasting, and financial sustainability.

Nigeria’s inclusion as a founding member underscores its growing influence in African football administration and its commitment to the development of club football across the continent.
