Nigeria’s Women’s Under-18 Handball team wrapped up their group stage campaign at the Africa Women’s Youth Handball Championship in Oran, Algeria, with a thrilling 37–35 victory over Kenya on Friday.
The Nigerian side went into the break with an 18–14 lead, showing early dominance and composure. However, they struggled against a resurgent Kenyan team in the second half, who mounted a strong fightback and pushed the game down to the wire.
Despite the pressure, Nigeria held their nerve in the final minutes to secure the hard-fought win, ensuring they ended their group run on a positive note.
With the result, Nigeria finished third in Group A with 5 points, behind Tunisia and Angola who topped the group with 10 and 8 points respectively.
The Coach John Uzor's side will now have to prepare to face host nation Algeria in the 5th-place playoff on Saturday at 4pm.
