Nigeria Begins 14-day Camping In Benin Ahead Of World Cup Qualifier

Nigeria’s senior women’s cricket team, the Female Yellow Greens, have commenced a 14-day open training camp at the High-Performance Centre in Benin City in preparation for the 2026 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Africa Qualifiers, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

The qualifiers, scheduled to take place in Namibia from August 28 to September 7, will see Nigeria compete in Division 1 for a spot in the Global Qualifiers.

A total of 22 players have been invited to the camp by the Nigeria Cricket Federation. The squad features a mix of emerging talents from the ICC U-19 Women’s T20 World Cup held earlier this year in Malaysia, established regulars, and new call-ups.

Key players in camp include team captain Favour Eseigbe, Salome Sunday, Esther Sandy, Sarah Etim, Lucky Piety, Peculiar Agboya, Kehinde Amusa, and Victory Igbinedion. Also present are Christabel Chukwuonye, Shola Adekunle, Rachael Samson, Lillian Ude, Anointed Akhigbe, and Peace Usen.

Others in the squad are Omosigo Egunakun, Abigail Igbobie, Rukayat Abdulrasaq, Deborah Bassey, Habibat Oremeyi, Oseyande Omonkhobhio, Ayomide Abdulrasaq, and Urante Devine.

Under the guidance of head coach Leke Oyede, Nigeria will face strong opposition in Division 1 from teams like Zimbabwe, Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, host Namibia, and two teams advancing from Division 2.

Division 2 action takes place in Botswana from July 20 to 26, with the top two teams securing promotion to the Division 1 qualifiers.

Only the top two teams from the Africa Qualifiers will move on to the Global Qualifiers, which will determine final slots for the 2026 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup in England.
