Nigeria Boosts Volleyball Coaching Capacity As 12 Coaches Earn FIVB Qualification

Nigeria’s volleyball development has received a boost after all 12 Nigerian coaches who participated in the FIVB Level 1 Coaching Course in Ghana successfully completed the programme, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

The qualification represents a significant milestone for the Nigeria Volleyball Federation (NVBF), with the newly certified coaches expected to play a role in strengthening coaching standards and player development across the country.

The Nigerian participants were led by team leader Dorothy Egbum and included Francisca Ikhiede, Lydia Ayisa Yakubu, Anthony Damilola Taiwo, Monday Dada, Friday Peter, Morris Sefeiya Dikyai, Hajara Audu, Bose Melaiye, Bukky Oluwatosin, Sewuese Iorkua and George Samson Malaika.

The FIVB Level 1 qualification equips coaches with internationally recognised foundational knowledge, technical skills and modern coaching methodologies. The training is designed to strengthen coaching capacity and support player development from the grassroots to youth and elite levels.

The successful completion of the course is expected to expand Nigeria’s pool of internationally trained volleyball coaches, creating greater opportunities for players to receive quality technical guidance in schools, clubs and state teams.

It could also contribute to a more structured coaching pathway in the country, with trained coaches helping to improve player development and promote greater consistency in technical approaches across different levels of the sport.

The NVBF welcomed the successful outcome, describing the qualification of all 12 participants as a positive development for Nigerian volleyball.

The federation is expected to continue supporting opportunities for Nigerian coaches to access international training programmes and modern coaching techniques, recognising the importance of qualified technical personnel to the long-term development of the sport.

With the 12 coaches now equipped with FIVB Level 1 qualifications, Nigeria has strengthened its coaching base and added another layer to efforts aimed at raising standards and developing the next generation of volleyball players.
