Nigeria’s U-18 women’s handball team fell narrowly to Angola, losing 23–20 in their third group game at the Africa Women’s Youth Handball Championship in Oran, Algeria, BSNSports.com.ng reports.
The young Nigerians, eager to recover from a loss to Tunisia and a draw with the Benin Republic, went into the clash with determination.
However, they trailed 11–8 at halftime as Angola’s solid defence and sharp finishing proved difficult to overcome.
Coach John Uzor’s side came out stronger after the break, displaying greater composure and resilience.
They fought hard to close the gap, matching the Angolans goal for goal in the closing stages.
Despite their spirited push, a few untimely turnovers cost Nigeria the chance to level the game, with Angola holding firm to claim the 23–20 win.
The result leaves Nigeria facing an uphill task in its bid to reach the knockout stage of the tournament.
