Nigeria has achieved a landmark milestone in global sports by becoming the first African nation to compete in the 2-Woman Bobsleigh event at the International Bobsleigh & Skeleton Federation (IBSF) World Cup, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

The historic debut took place in Cortina d’Ampezzo, Italy one of the world’s most celebrated winter sports venues where Nigerian athletes Simi Adeagbo and Kewe King made their World Cup entry on the icy track.

Their participation marked the first time an African team has ever featured in the two-woman bobsleigh category since the inception of the World Cup, underscoring both the growth of winter sports on the continent and Nigeria’s expanding global sporting footprint.

Adeagbo and King delivered a courageous and technically impressive performance against seasoned international competitors, earning praise for their composure and determination on one of the circuit’s most demanding courses.

The achievement represents more than a competitive milestone; it signals a new era of representation and ambition for Nigerian sports, aligning with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope agenda, which emphasises broadening athletic development across diverse sporting disciplines.

Nigeria’s groundbreaking appearance in Italy is now seen as a catalyst for future participation in winter sports and an inspiration for athletes across Africa.
