As excitement builds with only 9 days remaining until Abuja 2025 kicks off on July 23, the Nigeria Olympic Committee (NOC) has announced vital financial support to ensure the 14th African Armwrestling Championship and 7th Para-Armwrestling Championship succeed in style, reports BSNSports.com.ng.

In a strong show of solidarity, NOC President Engr. Habu Gumel personally confirmed the financial boost over the weekend, emphasizing the Olympic body’s commitment to supporting the efforts of the Nigeria Armwrestling Federation, the Local Organizing Committee (LOC), and the National Sports Commission (NSC) in delivering a world-class event.

This announcement follows the NOC’s executive meeting in April, where it reaffirmed its broader role in promoting continental sports, including its backing for championships like Abuja 2025.

Hon. Adeboye Anthony Adeyinka, LOC Chairman and Senior Special Assistant to the President on Grassroots Sports Development, praised the support, stating: “With the NOC’s backing, we’re not just hosting—we’re staging excellence. This support accelerates our plans for infrastructure, broadcasting, and athlete welfare.”

The NOC's investment will enhance critical media functions such as live streaming, press facilities, graphics, and athlete interviews, ensuring exceptional coverage and storytelling for over 400 athletes and officials from 24 African nations, Adeboye added.

With just 9 days to go, Abuja is firmly in the spotlight, joining a select group of cities with national Olympic backing for major sporting events.

The momentum is unstoppable, as partners like the AFA, the National Sports Commission, and the Nigerian Navy unite behind the vision.

With the NOC’s financial commitment, Abuja is poised to elevate the championship into Africa’s most impressive sporting showcase ever.
