Nigeria Ranked 26th in World, Fourth in Africa in Latest FIFA Rankings

Super Eagles have retained 26th position in the latest FIFA Men's World Rankings released on Monday, but slipped to fourth place among African nations, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

Eric Chelle's side garnered 1,585.2  points to stay ahead of Turkey, Australia, Algeria, Canada and Côte d'Ivoire, who occupy 27th, 28th, 29th, 30th and 31st positions respectively in the global standings.

The Super Eagles have not featured in competitive action since June, when they suffered a 2-1 defeat to former European champions Portugal in an international friendly.

Nigeria's drop in the continental rankings follows Egypt's impressive campaign at the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The Pharaohs climbed to third in Africa after reaching the Round of 16, where they were narrowly beaten 3-2 by Argentina.

Morocco retained their status as Africa's highest-ranked team after advancing to the quarter-finals of the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The Atlas Lions also moved up one place in the global rankings, rising from seventh to sixth.

Senegal remain Africa's second-ranked nation despite dropping three places in the world rankings, while Algeria slipped one place globally but retained fifth position on the continent.

At the top of the global rankings, newly crowned FIFA World Cup champions Spain returned to the No. 1 position, with Argentina dropping to second. France, England and Brazil complete the top five.

The next edition of the FIFA Men's World Rankings is scheduled to be released on Wednesday, October 7, 2026.
