Nigeria Ready To Host 9th Lagos International Badminton Classics

Nigeria is set to host the 9th Lagos International Badminton Classics from August 26 to 29, 2026, with 166 players from 27 countries expected to participate in the prestigious tournament, BSNSports.com.ng reports.
The championship will take place at the Indoor Sports Hall of the National Institute for Sports (NIS), National Stadium, Lagos.
President of the Badminton Federation of Nigeria (BFN), Francis Orbih, said the country is fully prepared to stage the international competition, expressing satisfaction with the level of participation.
“We are fully prepared to host the 9th Lagos International Badminton Classics. The response from participating countries has been very encouraging, and we are expecting 166 players from 27 countries to compete in this year’s tournament,” Orbih said.
The tournament comes with a total prize purse of US$20,000, highlighting its growing importance on the international badminton calendar.
Orbih said the prize money would provide additional motivation for the participating players to deliver competitive performances.
The BFN president also expressed appreciation to the Director General of the National Institute for Sports, Rt. Hon. Phillip Shuaibu, and the management of the institute for making the venue available for the championship.
He added that the federation remains committed to organising a world-class tournament that will strengthen Nigeria’s reputation as a destination for major international badminton events.
