Nigeria Still Has A Chance At World Championships – NSC DG Olopade
Sampson Adedeji
Despite missing the recent World Athletics Relays in Guangzhou, China, the Director General of the Nigeria Sports Commission (NSC), Bukolà Olopade, remains optimistic about Nigeria's chances of competing in the relay events at the upcoming World Athletics Championships in Tokyo, Japan, BSNSports.com.ng reports.
Olopade acknowledged that Team Nigeria’s absence from the World Relays negatively affected their qualification prospects but emphasized that there is still a pathway to secure a spot in Tokyo.
He revealed that the NSC, in collaboration with the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN), is considering hosting a special relay competition to provide an opportunity for qualification.
“We’re hosting the African U-20 Championships in Abeokuta, Ogun State in July, and we’re looking at organizing relay events alongside it,” Olopade said.
“All hope is not lost for our athletes. They still have a chance to qualify. We’re planning to invite other countries that also missed the World Relays in China,” he added.
