Nigeria Targets Global Archery Growth With Abuja Championship

The Chairman of the Marketing Committee of the Local Organising Committee (LOC) for the upcoming Nigeria Archery Championship, Ambassador Augustine Chigbolu, has appealed to corporate organisations, public-spirited individuals, and political leaders to support the successful staging of the tournament.

The championship is scheduled to take place in Abuja from April 20 to April 26, 2026, and is expected to attract leading archers from across the country.

Chigbolu, who also serves as the First Vice President of the Nigeria Archery Federation, made the call while providing updates on preparations for the national event. He highlighted the championship as a strategic platform for advancing sports development, identifying emerging talents, and strengthening Nigeria’s competitiveness in international archery.

According to him, the event will also contribute to youth engagement by providing constructive opportunities, while fostering national unity and raising the profile of archery as an emerging sport in Nigeria.

He further noted that hosting the championship is expected to generate both economic and social benefits, including increased commercial activity and tourism within the Federal Capital Territory.

Emphasising the importance of adequate funding, Chigbolu called on stakeholders to partner with the organisers to ensure the delivery of a world-class competition. He added that the LOC is committed to meeting international standards through proper logistics and facility arrangements, expressing confidence in Nigeria’s capacity to host major sporting events successfully.
