Nigeria Team, Officials Arrive Tuesday After Missing Out on 2026 World Cup
By Niyi Busari
Nigeria’s contingent to Morocco for the African FIFA World Cup Playoff is scheduled to return to the country today, Tuesday, 18 November 2025, after observing a day of rest on Monday following the Super Eagles’ failure to secure a World Cup spot, BSNSports.com.ng reports.
The delegation includes officials of the National Sports Commission, executives and staff of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), the Super Eagles’ technical crew and players, representatives of the National Assembly, and members of various supporters’ groups.
The group is expected to depart Rabat on a chartered flight and arrive at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, later today.
Nigeria had advanced to the playoff final after defeating Gabon in the semifinal. However, the three-time African champions fell short on Sunday, losing 5–4 on penalties to the Democratic Republic of Congo after a 1–1 draw across 120 minutes.
The defeat ended Nigeria’s bid to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, while DR Congo progressed to the FIFA Intercontinental Playoff scheduled to take place in Mexico in March 2026.
