Nigeria World Cup Group Opponents Extend Winless Streak To Four After Loss To Morocco

The Atlas Lions of Morocco defeated the Benin Republic’s Cheetahs 1-0 in a friendly match on Monday.
Two minutes into the first half stoppage time, Ayoub El Kaabi’s goal gave Morocco the victory.
As a result of the loss, Benin Republic has lost four of their last eight games and drawn four.
During the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifications in October 2024, Benin Republic defeated Rwanda 3-0, their most recent victory.
They are only one point ahead of Nigeria’s Super Eagles, who are in fourth place in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying tournament, with eight points.
The minnows overcame a one-goal deficit to defeat the Super Eagles 2-1 on matchday four of the qualifiers in June 2024.
In October, the final game of the qualifying season will take place in Uyo between the two teams. Russia was held to a 1-1 draw by the Super Eagles in Moscow last Friday.
In the four-nation Unity Cup event, the Super Eagles participated and defeated Jamaica 5–4 on penalties to win.
Benin Republic are in Group C alongside Nigeria, South Africa, Rwanda, Lesotho and Zimbabwe. Rwanda and Benin Republic are second and third on the log with eight points apiece from six games while table toppers, South Africa garnered 13. Nigeria, Lesotho and Zimbabwe are fourth, fifth and sixth with seven, six and four points respectively.
