Nigeria’s Eagles Begin Title Defense with 3–0 Victory Over Cote D'ivoire

Nigeria’s senior national deaf football team, the Deaf Eagles, opened their campaign at the 13th West Africa Deaf Football Tournament with a commanding 3–0 victory over Côte d’Ivoire on Thursday at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Abuja, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

After a goalless first half, the Deaf Eagles found their rhythm in the second half, netting three goals to secure a strong start in their quest to retain the trophy.

The victory reinforces Nigeria’s pedigree in the competition. The Deaf Eagles have reached the final on ten occasions and lifted the title five times. With their eyes now set on a sixth crown, the team has once again demonstrated why they are regarded as one of the best deaf football sides in the sub-region.

Although the match drew a modest crowd due to the stadium’s location, the Deaf Eagles showed no signs of distraction, executing their game plan with precision against their Ivorian counterparts.

In other fixtures, Liberia will face Togo in a Group B encounter at 9 a.m. on Friday, while Nigeria will return to action later the same day at 4 p.m. against The Gambia in their second Group A match. 

Victory against The Gambia would not only boost Nigeria’s chances of retaining the trophy but also guarantee them a place in the semi-finals — bringing them a step closer to yet another final appearance.
