Nigeria’s world number two SL3 para-badminton player and Paralympic bronze medallist, Eniola Bolaji, has departed the country alongside two other athletes for the Para-Badminton World Championship in Bahrain, scheduled to hold from February 8 to 14.

Bolaji will be making her second international appearance of the year after an outstanding start to the season, having won gold at the Egypt International Championship in January. The victory further reinforced her position as one of the leading figures in global para-badminton.

Nigeria will also be represented by Chigozie Jeremiah in the men’s SL4 category and Chinyere Okoro in the women’s SL4 event, with Okoro competing as the nation’s sole female representative in the championship.

Speaking after the team’s departure, President of the Badminton Federation of Nigeria (BFN), Francis Orbih, expressed confidence in the athletes’ preparedness and their prospects at the championship.

Orbih disclosed that the players underwent an intensive one-month training camp in Abuja as part of preparations for the global event, adding that they are fully ready to compete at the highest level.

“Nigeria’s para-badminton players are once again prepared to represent the country on the world stage,” Orbih said. “The athletes demonstrated remarkable dedication and commitment throughout the camping exercise in Abuja.

“Eniola Bolaji is currently in the best form of her career following her gold medal performance at the Egypt International Championship, while Chigozie Jeremiah and Chinyere Okoro are well motivated and ready to challenge for honours in Bahrain.”

The BFN president also acknowledged the support of the National Sports Commission and GIG Logistics, noting that their contributions have been vital in facilitating the athletes’ participation in major international ranking tournaments.
