Nigeria’s Para Powerlifters Depart For 11th World Championships In Cairo

Excitement is building as Team Nigeria’s para powerlifting contingent jetted out of the country on Tuesday, October 7, for the 11th World Para Powerlifting Championships scheduled to hold in Cairo, Egypt, from October 9 to 18, 2025, BSNSports.com.ng reports.
This edition of the World Championships is historic, as it will be the first ever hosted on African soil a major milestone that marks a new chapter for the sport on the continent.
The first batch of Nigerian athletes departed on Tuesday to loud cheers and encouragement from officials, fans, and supporters.
The remaining members of the team are expected to leave Lagos on Wednesday, October 8, completing the full delegation for the prestigious global event.
Ahead of their departure, team officials expressed optimism about Nigeria’s prospects, stressing the athletes’ readiness to maintain the nation’s proud record as a dominant force in para powerlifting.
The National Sports Commission (NSC) also reaffirmed its full backing for the contingent, reiterating the government’s commitment to fostering inclusivity and sporting excellence across all disciplines.
