Team Nigeria will depart this week for Santiago, Chile, to compete at the prestigious World Para-Powerlifting Championships, scheduled for August 11–18, 2025, BSNSports.com.ng reports.
The delegation, made up of the nation’s top para-powerlifters, will be looking to extend Nigeria’s dominance in the sport and add to the country’s rich history of global success.
Director General of the National Sports Commission, Hon. Bukola Olopade, praised the athletes for their dedication and discipline during their training camp, urging them to carry the nation’s hopes with pride.
“You are carrying the hopes and pride of millions of Nigerians. Compete with focus, discipline, and the fighting spirit that has made our country a powerhouse in para-powerlifting. We believe in your ability to make history once again and bring glory to the nation,” Olopade charged.
With an outstanding track record at previous editions, Nigeria’s para-powerlifters head to Chile fully prepared to test their strength, skill, and resilience against the best in the world.
Their participation also reflects the Bola Tinubu-led administration’s continued commitment to supporting para-sports and empowering differently-abled athletes to excel at the highest level.
