Nigeria's Samson Adamu Replaces DR Congo's Mosengo-Omba As Acting CAF General Secretary

Nigeria’s Samson Adamu has been appointed Acting General Secretary of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), with immediate effect, marking a significant leadership transition within the continental governing body, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

Sources within the Confederation of Africa Football (CAF) confirmed the development on Sunday, stating that Adamu will assume the role following the departure of Congolese official Véron Mosengo-Omba. Mosengo-Omba stepped down to pursue his candidacy for the presidency of the Democratic Republic of Congo’s Football Federation (FECOFA).

Adamu, who joined CAF in 2018 as Director of Competitions, has steadily risen within the organization, earning recognition for his administrative competence and execution of key projects. His appointment is widely viewed as a continuation of CAF’s internal leadership structure during this transitional period.

Mosengo-Omba had served as CAF’s General Secretary since March 2021, when he succeeded Abdelmounaim Bah. Prior to his tenure at CAF, he held a senior position at FIFA as Chief Member Associations Officer. His exit follows mounting pressure and ongoing transition discussions within the organization.

Before joining CAF, Adamu was known for his role as the founder and Chief Executive Officer of the Copa Lagos Futsal tournament, an international event that drew participation and attention from across the globe.

Since taking up his responsibilities at CAF, Adamu has maintained a strong presence in the organization’s operations, gaining the confidence of senior officials through his performance. His appointment as Acting General Secretary had been anticipated in recent weeks, as his name emerged among leading candidates to fill the position.

The appointment underscores CAF’s reliance on experienced internal figures as it navigates a period of administrative change.
