Nigeria’s Taiwo Mati Beat Egytian Gamal To Win U-19 Title at ITTF African C/ship

Nigeria’s Taiwo Mati defeated Gamal Marwan of Egypt 4-1 to win the U-19 boys’ title at the 2022 ITTF African Youth Championship in Tunisia.

The Ondo-born teenager defeated his Egyptian opponent in a one-sided final played on Wednesday.

Earlier in the day, the West African champion alongside Samuel Boboye claimed gold in an all-Nigerian U-19 boys doubles match.

The duo picked up a 3-2 win over Muiz Adegoke and Kuti Matthew, who were able to secure the silver medal in the event.

Also, Mati, Boboye, and Adegoke defeated Egypt’s Marwan Gamal, Mohamed Azzam, and Moamen Salah El Din 3-1 in their final to claim gold in the U-19 boys’ team category.

However, Nigeria lost to Egypt in the U-15 boys’ team final.

The team composed of Kuti Matthew, Mustapha Mustapha, and Musa Mustapha lost 3-1 to the Egyptian side which included Abdelaal Anas, ElSayed Abdelmalik, Gaber Yassin, and Elserafy Yassin.

The Nigerian contingent finished the campaign with six medals: three gold, two silver, and a bronze.
