Nigerian, Beninese Fighters Set for WBA Africa Title Showdown in Abuja

Nigerian boxer Tope “TP-Rock” Musa has vowed to overpower his Beninese opponent, Koussai Martin, when both fighters clash for the WBA Africa Super Featherweight Title on Saturday in Abuja, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

Speaking during Friday’s pre-fight press conference, Musa exuded confidence, promising to display superior technique and finish the bout early.

“I will show you boxing; I am ready for tomorrow,” he said, predicting a stoppage within five rounds. He also expressed gratitude to his supporters and the Nigeria Boxing Board of Control (NBBC) for standing behind him.

His opponent, however, dismissed the Nigerian’s bravado. Martin described the contest as “a battle between neighbours” and warned that he was ready to bring intensity to the ring.

“The Nigerian camp is over-confident, but I will change the story when the fight starts. Our iron will burn; tomorrow you will see fireworks,” he declared.

Earlier, the President of the Nigerian Boxing Board of Control, Rafiu Oladipo, confirmed that the World Boxing Association had fully sanctioned the bout and approved all financial details.

“The WBA has given the endorsement, including how much each boxer will earn, and the promoter has agreed to pay. There will be no issues after the fight; the money is already secured,” he said.

He added that both camps had participated in a rules meeting conducted in line with WBA regulations and assured fans of a professionally managed event.

Fight promoter Emmanuel Zacheus explained that staging the bout in Abuja was part of efforts to grow professional boxing within the Federal Capital Territory. He expressed confidence in Musa’s preparation and prospects.

“Tope has proved himself across Africa; I believe he will become WBA African champion tomorrow by the grace of God,” Zacheus said.

He noted that Saturday’s programme would feature several undercard bouts and urged fans to attend in person as organisers prepare for another major boxing event in Abuja next May.

“We want all the boxers to prove themselves because we are still scouting for future talents,” he added.
