Nigerian Ambassador To Egypt Honors Flying Eagles After AFCON Showing

The Nigerian Ambassador to the Arab Republic of Egypt, His Excellency Ambassador Nura Abba Rimi has honoured the Flying Eagles who scooped the bronze medals in the just-concluded U20 AFCON, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

The Flying Eagles of Nigeria achieved their U20 AFCON goal after defeating Uganda 1-0 in the quarter-finals to book their place in the FIFA U-20 World Cup slated to be held in Indonesia later this year.

According to reports, a total of 21 players and 10 officials received a plaque of honour from the Ambassador at his residence in Egypt on Sunday morning as the team prepares to depart Egypt for Nigeria in the coming days.

Ladan Bosso's men couldn't finish the job in Egypt after qualifying for the World Cup. The seven-time African champions lost to a narrow 1-0 defeat to Gambia in the semi-finals, in a game in which they missed a penalty kick in the 86th after dominating the game from the kickoff.

Despite the defeat, Bosso's men picked up the bronze medal after beating Tunisia 4-0 at the Cairo International Stadium on Friday evening. They were also awarded the fair place prize by CAF for their sportsmanship throughout the tournament in Egypt.
