Nigerian Athlete Breaks African Record At NCAA Indoor Championships

Nigeria’s Ella Onojuvwevwo delivered a historic performance at the NCAA Division I Indoor Track and Field Championships after smashing the African record in the women’s 400 metres, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

Onojuvwevwo stormed to victory in the heats with a remarkable time of 50.28 seconds, setting a new African indoor record and a massive personal best.

The Nigerian athlete also improved on her previous outdoor personal best with the performance, underlining her impressive form this season.

Her time of 50.28s currently makes her the fastest woman in the world in the 400m this year, finishing ahead of Madison Whyte, who clocked 50.68 seconds in the heats.

The record-breaking run also places Onojuvwevwo among Nigeria’s fastest women in history, becoming the quickest Nigerian over the distance since Falilat Ogunkoya ran 50.04 seconds in Osaka in 2000.

Onojuvwevwo’s performance has further strengthened her reputation as one of the rising stars in global athletics as she heads into the later rounds of the competition.
