Nigerian-Born Basketball Star Announces Retirement

Nigerian-born basketball star Nneka Ogwumike has announced her retirement from professional basketball after an illustrious 15-season career in the WNBA, BSNSports.com.ng reports.
Ogwumike, who has established herself as one of the most accomplished players in WNBA history, leaves the game with a remarkable list of individual and team honours.
The veteran forward won the WNBA Championship with the Los Angeles Sparks in 2016 and was named the league’s Most Valuable Player in the same season. She also won the WNBA Rookie of the Year award in 2012.
Ogwumike was selected to the WNBA All-Star team 11 times and earned All-WNBA First-Team honours once, alongside seven All-WNBA Second-Team selections.
Her defensive excellence was also recognised with four WNBA All-Defensive First-Team selections and three All-Defensive Second-Team honours. She was additionally named to the WNBA All-Rookie Team in 2012.
Ogwumike, born to Nigerian parents, has enjoyed a distinguished career both on and off the court and leaves behind a lasting legacy in women's basketball.
Her retirement brings an end to a 15-year WNBA journey highlighted by championships, individual awards and consistent All-Star performances.
