Nigerian-born winger Michael Olise has been named the 2026 Best French Player Abroad at the annual Union Nationale des Footballeurs Professionnels (UNFP) Awards held in Paris, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

The Bayern Munich forward secured the prestigious honour ahead of high-profile contenders including Real Madrid star Kylian Mbappé and Lyon’s Rayan Cherki, underlining his remarkable performances throughout the season.

Olise has enjoyed an outstanding campaign in Germany, establishing himself as one of the Bundesliga’s most influential attacking players. The talented winger currently leads the Bundesliga assist chart with 19 assists and also ranks joint-top among players across Europe’s top five leagues.

His creativity, technical quality, and consistency have earned widespread praise and further strengthened his reputation as one of France’s brightest emerging stars playing outside Ligue 1.

Beyond his football achievements, Olise’s success also highlights the growing influence of African heritage within European football. Born in England to a Nigerian father, the 24-year-old’s rise continues to resonate strongly with football fans across Nigeria and the African diaspora.

The award’s leading contenders also reflected the diversity that shapes modern French football. Mbappé has Cameroonian roots through his father, while Cherki is of Algerian descent.

Olise’s victory ahead of Mbappé, widely regarded as one of the world’s elite players, signals the emergence of a new generation of French talent making its mark on the global stage.

For many Nigerian supporters, the recognition represents a source of pride, with Olise’s journey serving as inspiration for young footballers of African heritage aspiring to succeed at the highest level.

With the award, Olise further cements his status among France’s top football exports while reinforcing the global impact of Nigerian talent in international football.
