Former Super Eagles defender Ifeanyi Udeze has thrown his weight behind Kenneth Omeruo’s recent move to CFR Cluj, describing it as a perfect opportunity for the experienced centre-back to work his way back into the national team, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

Omeruo recently signed a two-year contract with the Romanian giants after leaving Turkish side Kasimpasa earlier in January.

Speaking to Footy-Africa, Udeze, who represented Nigeria 35 times, expressed confidence in Omeruo’s ability to return to top form and reclaim his place with the Super Eagles.

“I’m happy with his move to Romania, and I wish him all the best. He’s a very good defender, a top defender, and I believe he can help the club achieve great things,” Udeze stated.

“Omeruo is the kind of player I love to see in the Super Eagles. He hates conceding goals, and whether people like it or not, he’s someone the team needs. His commitment, mentality, and fighting spirit are exactly what we require in the national setup,” he added.

Udeze further emphasized that regular playing time will be crucial for Omeruo's Super Eagles return.

"All he needs to do is play consistently, be a regular starter at his club, and everything else will follow. He remains an important player for us, but he must regain full fitness, improve physically, and be ready to help when the national team comes calling provided the coach invites him,” Udeze concluded.

Omeruo has been an integral part of the Super Eagles since making his senior debut in 2013. He has earned 69 international caps and scored once for Nigeria.
