Nigerian Legend Outlines What Super Eagles Must Do To Attain Their Potential

Former Super Eagles captain and Nigerian football legend Austin ‘Jay-Jay’ Okocha has outlined what the current national team must do to reach its full potential and achieve consistent success on the international stage, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

Speaking after Nigeria missed another opportunity to qualify for the FIFA World Cup, despite having what many described as a favourable route, Okocha expressed disappointment but insisted the team still has the quality to become one of Africa’s strongest sides if they embrace consistency.

Nigeria’s campaign in the World Cup qualifiers was turbulent, registering mixed results that eventually saw them fall short of expectations.

Okocha believes the major issue is not talent, but the inability to maintain focus and high-level performances across all matches.

“Nigeria’s run in the World Cup qualifiers was a rollercoaster, but we would have loved to see Nigeria qualify with ease,” Okocha told RG.

“We all know football is not an easy game, and what I think they should improve on is to be more consistent. They need to stick to winning with top performance in every game.”

Okocha, regarded as one of the most gifted midfielders in African football history, urged the players to show greater mentality and discipline, adding that Nigerians expect commitment and a winning mentality from the senior national team.

The Super Eagles are now expected to regroup ahead of the upcoming African Cup of Nations in Morocco, with fans hoping for a revival of form and a stronger identity under the current coaching setup.
