Nigerian Officials Appointed to Key African Boxing Positions

Nigeria has strengthened its influence within African boxing administration following the appointment of two of its officials to key sub-committees of the continental governing body.

Mr. Emoni Williams has been named Chairman of the Ethics and Disciplinary Committee of the African Boxing body. His appointment was confirmed in a letter signed by the organisation’s President, Mr. Solomon Desmond Kargbo, who described the selection as a recognition of Williams’ integrity, professionalism and commitment to upholding the highest ethical standards in African boxing.

According to Mr. Kargbo, the African Boxing body has full confidence in Mr. Williams’ capacity to promote fairness, accountability and strict adherence to the organisation’s rules and regulations across the continent.

In a related development, Mr. Abdelilah Oudghhiri of the Royal Moroccan Boxing Federation has been appointed Chairman of the Technical Committee of the African Boxing League (ABL). The appointment was announced by the Governor of the African Boxing League and Vice President of the Nigerian Boxing Federation (NBF), Hon. Omolei Imadu, who noted that Oudghhiri’s selection reflects his extensive technical expertise, administrative competence and long-standing contributions to the growth of boxing in Africa.

Nigeria also secured another strategic role with the appointment of renowned technical boxing procedures expert, Mr. Babatunde Laguda, as Secretary General of the Technical Committee of the African Boxing League. In this capacity, Laguda will oversee technical operations, ensure compliance with competition standards and support policy implementation aimed at promoting professionalism, fairness and sustainable development within the league.

The African Boxing League is designed to organize competitive events that identify and nurture boxing talent across the continent, with particular emphasis on youth development. The league is expected to commence activities across Africa’s four zones, initially involving 15 countries, with plans to expand participation in subsequent phases.

Members of the Nigerian boxing community have welcomed the developments, describing them as a significant step toward the revival of the country’s boxing fortunes. A leading Nigerian coach described the appointments as “a clear and unmistakable sign of Nigeria’s return to its glorious boxing era.”
