Nigerian Striker Not Sure About Genk Future

Cyriel Dessers says he's not sure about his future with Belgium Jupiler Pro League team, KRC Genk, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

After a successful loan spell with Dutch Eredivisie club Feyenoord, Dessers, 27, returned to Genk after he got some extra days of vacation owing to his international obligations with Nigeria, and he featured in a pre-season friendly match against FC Utrecht during the week. 

The Nigerian who had many fond memories of his loan spell at Feyenoord told Het Laatste Nieuws.

 "It was the best year in my career. I became a better player, learnt how to deal with the pressure to play football in front of 50,000 fans and played the UEFA Conference League final. A lot of top players don't witness that."

Whether Dessers can feature for Racing Genk when the season kicks off in less than 14 days, is a question the Nigerian has no answers for.

"Last year we had to wait until August 31, this year I would like to have clarity earlier.

"I have always felt appreciated by Genk, especially from Technical Director Dimitri de Condé and new coach Wouter Vrancken. That is also one of the reasons why I am not reluctant to leave here."

Asked if he wished to join Feyenoord, "I keep all options open, I still have good rapport with Feyenoord and I hear from the coach regularly, so that door is not completely closed yet," concludes the Nigerian.

Meanwhile, with Feyenoord taking advantage of some lucrative outgoing transfers after making 40 million euros with the sale of Luis Sinisterra (Leeds) and Tyrell Malacia (Man Utd), there could be a stumbling block for Dessers move from Genk.

With an option to buy clause of €4 million euros on his loan deal to Feyenoord, which was turned down by the Dutch side, there's fear that Genk may now ask for a higher transfer fee.

 "We'll see if that changes anything for me," Dessers concludes.
